Halloween 2008 Preview
September 13, 2008
I started working on a brand new prop this week. Instead of going with my usual heavy duty style, I'm using a styrofoam skull and rolled newspaper for bones. The newspaper is much easier to contort and shape than pvc, if you're looking to make a zombie with more twisted and bent features. The newspaper design, for this prop, is credited to Spooky Blue. He has a great site with some awesome how-to's.September 5, 2008

Finally, the Halloween '08 Preview page is up and running! Ironically, I also received my Fright Catalog in the mail today. Its arrival always means Halloween is just around the corner. My latest project is built in the style of my heavy duty groundbreakers and scarecrow from last year. This corpse is only the sixth Halloween prop I've built to date, but I'm starting to get comfortable with my own style of mache. I prefer a very stringy look, as if the skin is shredded and "dripping" in-between the bones. It appears glossy in the photos now, but will be flat when the zombie is painted.
I also use a very heavy glue to water ratio in my mache. This creates the appearance of candle wax oozing down the body. When dry, the texture almost feels like jerky. There are still another couple weeks of work to be done before this one is ready for the cemetary. Please check back soon for more updates.
